On Thursday 28 May there is an excellent opportunity to hear a performance by soprano Charlotte Newstead with her accompanist David Bednall at St. Paul’s Church, Clifton, Bristol.
The programme features works by leading West Country composers. It include songs by Jolyon Lacock, David Bednall , Raymond Warren and the American composer James D’Angelo, now living in Gloucestershire. It is Warren’s song cycle based on poems by Christina Rosetti that gives the concert its title “Another Spring”. David Bednall’s cycle “The Frost is Here” sets poems by Oscar Wilde, Thomas Hardy and Alfred Lord Tennyson. Edna St. Vincent Millay ‘s sonnets are the basis of Jolyon Lacock’s songs and James D’Angelo has chosen two mystical poems by Walt Whitman.
